Oh Canada!

Canadian Surplus expected to exceed $5 Billion Loonies.

The bigger than expected surplus will make it easier for the federal government to fulfill its promise to provide an extra $2 billion to the provinces for health care and to avoid a deficit.

President George W. Bush, flanked by former U.S. Senator Chuck Robb (L), announces the creation of an investigatory commission to study the intelligence data provided to the U.S. government during the period leading up to the war in Iraq, February 6, 2003. Under strong political pressure, Bush established the bipartisan commission and gave it until well after the November election to report back.

The investigation into the Office of Special Plans' distortion of American Intelligence hasn't started yet - but there's an urgent FCC investigation into Janet J. and her PR stunt. Welcome to GOP's America.

In Their Own Words: Seeking Truth in American Politics

2/25/04:

Perle Quits Pentagon Advisory Board

Perle & Co. got their war - and all we got was this lousy T-Shirt.
"Despite repeated disclaimers, my membership on the Defense Policy Board has led many people who see my articles, books and television appearances to associate my views with those of the administration or the Department of Defense."

"I would not wish those views to be attributed to you or the president at any time, and especially not during a presidential campaign."

2/24/04:

Tenet: al-Qaeda Spreads Anti-U.S. Agenda

Tenet is factually correct.

Although, his sin of omission is in not acknowledging that the "Doctrine of Preemption" helps al Qaeda spread their agenda as well.

"The steady growth of Osama bin Laden's anti-U.S. sentiment through the wider Sunni (Islamic) extremist movement, and the broad dissemination of al Qaeda's destructive expertise, ensure that a serious threat will remain for the foreseeable future — with or without al Qaeda in the picture."
2/23/04:

Bush Assertion on Tax Cuts Is at Odds With IRS Data

"At Odds With IRS Data" is putting it nicely.

The Administration's fiscal policy benefits those who need it least at the expense of the middle class.

"If you're worried about job growth, it seems like it makes sense to give a little fuel to those who create jobs, the small-business sector. So I'll vigorously defend the permanency of the tax cuts, not only for the sake of the economy, but for the sake of the entrepreneurial spirit."
2/21/04:

Greenspan Urges Care on Employment Issue

And the Administration's proposal to increase manufacturing jobs before the upcoming election?

Reclassify "Fast-Food" workers  as "Manufacturing" instead of "Service".

You can't make this stuff up...

"Technology and, more recently, competition from abroad have risen to a point at which demand for the lowest skilled workers in developed countries is diminishing, placing pressure on their wages, these workers will need to be equipped with the skills to compete effectively for the new jobs that our economy will create."
2/20/04:

Soldier for the Truth

Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatkowski worked in NESA with the OSP during the marketing of Iraqi Freedom. As an insider, Karen provides a harrowing account of the administration's systematic deception that led us into war in Iraq. - Karen is a true Patriot.
"Like most people, I’ve always thought there should be honesty in government. Working 20 years in the military, I’m sure I saw some things that were less than honest or accountable. But nothing to the degree that I saw when I joined Near East South Asia."
2/19/04:

No End to War

Presidential advisors (and war profiteers) Perle and Frum write a blueprint for World War III - and hardly anyone notices.

Guess who's kids are going to fight these wars! - Ideology gone mad.

"Fear is what Perle and his co-author David Frum are peddling to stampede America into serial wars. Just such fear-mongering got us into Iraq, though, we have since discovered, Iraq had no hand in 9/11, no ties to al-Qaeda, no weapons of mass destruction, no nuclear program, and no plans to attack us. Iraq was never 'the clear and present danger' the authors insist she was."
2/18/04:

Bush Backs Off Forecast of 2.6M New Jobs

McClellan deserves credit. Imagine trying to defend this administration's economic policies on the same day that the National Debt soars past $7,000,000,000,000 with no end in sight.
"We are interested in reality."

"Some people want to turn back and take actions that would raise taxes on people at a time when our economy is really starting to grow strong."

2/17/04:

Bush Tries to Boost Troop Morale in La.

"We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the 11 September attacks." George Bush - 9/17/03

Even today, Bush is still insinuating that the war in Iraq is connected to 9-11. Our brave troops deserve better.

"My resolve is the same as it was on the day when I walked in the rubble of the twin towers, I will not relent until this threat to America is removed."
2/16/04:

Under Fire Over Jobs, Bush Hones Upbeat Message

"This budget is further proof that President Bush is the most fiscally irresponsible President in our nation's history. He is now projecting a $521 billion deficit for this year - the biggest ever. To put that number in perspective, it means that every minute, the Bush administration is spending $991,000 more than it takes in." - Kent Conrad
"The facts bear me out, the last six months of growth have been tremendous. Housing starts are way up. Inflation is low. Interest is low. New jobs are being created ... Things are looking better for America."
2/15/04:

Tutu tells Blair: Apologize for 'immoral' war

By not admitting they were wrong: President Bush and PM Blair have expanded the meaning of the "Doctrine of Preemption". Due to this lack of humility - Preemption is now justified against any country that is a "gathering threat".

Couldn't that be everybody?

"How wonderful if politicians could bring themselves to admit they are only fallible human creatures and not God and thus by definition can make mistakes. Unfortunately, they seem to think that such an admission is a sign of weakness. Weak and insecure people hardly ever say 'sorry'."
2/14/04:

20 Killed in Raid on Iraqi Police Station

Every Iraqi knows Chalabi is a product of the Pentagon and OSP. More pandering to America's "domestic audience". And, who doesn't realize the arbitrary June transfer is guided by politics over US security?
"We insist on the power transfer (by the end of June) and that sovereignty should be handed over to an elected body that represents the opinions of the people of Iraq."
2/13/04:

GOP chief: Democrats plan 'dirtiest campaign' in modern history

Remember what Rove did to Cleland and McCain - this could get ugly...
"John Kerry's record of service in our military is honorable. But his long record in the Senate is one of advocating policies that would weaken our national security.''
2/12/04:

Miller Time (Again)

Maybe Miller was trying to be a good reporter - but most of Miller's war reporting has been proven false. Like many in Washington, Miller was used by Chalabi. Judith Miller owes her readers a "real" explanation and an apology - that would be good reporting.
"My job was not to collect information and analyze it independently as an intelligence agency; my job was to tell readers of the New York Times as best as I could figure out, what people inside the governments who had very high security clearances, who were not supposed to talk to me, were saying to one another about what they thought Iraq had and did not have in the area of weapons of mass destruction."
2/11/04:

Greenspan Warns Budget Deficits May Undermine US Economy

Really? - Then maybe we need to revolt against the revolting "Trillion Dollar Social Security Privatization Plan".

And, what will happen to those seniors who lose their money in stocks like Enron? - Even more 80 y/o widows eating cat food? - Entirely Unacceptable!

"The fiscal issues that we face pose long-term challenges, but federal budget deficits could cause difficulties even in the relatively near term, long-term interest rates reflect not only the balance between the current demand for, and current supply of, credit, they also incorporate markets' expectations of those balances in the future."
2/10/04:

Pundit O'Reilly Now Skeptical About Bush

Credit, where credit is due.
"I was wrong. I am not pleased about it at all and I think all Americans should be concerned about this."

"What do you want me to do, go over and kiss the camera?"

2/9/04:

Philosophy, Not Policy

Harsh words from Peggy Noonan of all people! - One of the GOP's most respected conservatives.
"The president seemed tired, unsure and often bumbling. His answers were repetitive, and when he tried to clarify them he tended to make them worse. He did not seem prepared. He seemed in some way disconnected from the event. When he was thrown the semisoftball (sic) question on his National Guard experience--he's been thrown this question for 10 years now--he spoke in a way that seemed detached. "It's politics." Well yes, we know that. Tell us more."
2/8/04:

You Can Make It With Plato

Bush is an Elective War President: "There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once -- shame on -- shame on you. You fool me, you can't get fooled again." - Hear it for yourself.

George W. - Sep. 17, 2002

"That's very important for, I think, the people to understand where I'm coming from—to know that this is a dangerous world. I wish it wasn't. I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign policy matters with war on my mind. Again, I wish it wasn't true, but it is true. And the American people need to know they got a president who sees the world the way it is. And I see dangers that exist, and it's important for us to deal with them. … The policy of this administration is … to be realistic about the different threats that we face."

Democrats Assail Bush's Iraq Intel Panel

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

- Lord Acton, in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton, 1887.

"We had an opportunity to have a truly independent commission that could have brought fresh eyes to the subject. Instead, we have a commission wholly owned by the executive branch investigating the executive branch."
2/6/04:

Annan, Powell Differ on Impact of U.S. Data on Iraq

UN Secretary General Annan preemptively strikes America's "Doctrine of Preemption" and the imminent wars in Syria and Iran.  Enough already - support our brave troops - end the crusade.
"The bar has been raised, people are going to be very suspicious when one talks to them about intelligence. And they are going to be very suspicious when we try to use intelligence to justify certain actions."
2/5/04:

Text of Tenet's Remarks

Defending CIA analysts, Tenet also confirms: "They never said there was an imminent threat." Nor did Tenet remark on any Iraq/Terrorism links - let alone a link to 9-11. Tenet also denied any certainty regarding Iraq's WMD or the lack thereof.

Where did Bush get his "intelligence" if not from the CIA? - Why can't Tenet answer a simple question about the role (or even the existence) of the Office of Special Plans? - Why have I just answered my own questions?

QUESTION: Can you confirm or deny the existence of the (Office of Special Plans) Pentagon group? And if so, how can we prevent small ideological groups from influencing intelligence estimates?

TENET: "The president of the United States sees me six days a week, every day. I tell him what the American intelligence community believes. There are always people all around town -- you know, there's gambling in this casino. Everybody has different views of what the intelligence means or doesn't mean.

I can tell you with certainty that the president of the United States gets his intelligence from one person and one community: me. And he has told me firmly and directly that he's wanted it straight and he's wanted it honest and he's never wanted the facts shaded. And that's what we do every day. The rest of it, I don't know."

2/4/04:

Former weapons inspector, Scott Ritter

Patriotism is putting America's interests ahead of one's personal interests. Scott Ritter is a true American Patriot who should be honored - not smeared.
"There was not a single intelligence service in the world that said Iraq maintained massive stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction."

"We can not tolerate our elected officials lying and misrepresenting fact to put our troops in harms way, and this clearly is what happened in Iraq."

2/3/04:

Powell Expresses Doubts About the Case for Iraq War

Re: Powell's UN Speech.

Ideological loyalty trumped Patriotism - the lowest point in Powell's otherwise stellar career.

"I don't know, because it was the stockpile that presented the final little piece that made it more of a real and present danger and threat to the region and to the world...absence of a stockpile changes the political calculus; it changes the answer you get."
2/2/04:

Budget Blueprint

Kent Conrad for President.

"The problem with this Republican budget is by 2009, they're going to have $35,000 of debt beside the name of each and every American, every man, woman and child in this country, because of the fiscal irresponsibility of this administration."

Super Bowl Sunday Special: "Child's Play"

Never mind that this would have been the high brow ad of the night.

The ad that Viacom's CBS subsidiary refused to run during the Super Bowl.
